Snap-on Incorporated Announces New Wireless Vehicle Adapter for Improved Efficiency in Heavy Duty Truck Service

Rochester Hills, MI – Snap-on Incorporated is currently developing a new, high-tech wireless vehicle adapter—the WVL2™. The WVL2™ will be released under the Snap-on NEXIQ Technologies™ brand. This state-of-the-art product for heavy duty truck service bay technicians will be available in April 2009.

The WVL2™ will run on an embedded Linux operating system, which is also employed in the development of mobile phones, personal digital assistants, media players and other consumer electronics devices, networking equipment, industrial automation, navigation equipment, and medical instruments. With a 400 Mhz processor, the WVL2™ will provide 802.11 wireless connectivity, with an approximate range of 300 feet. As a backup, wired connectivity will be provided by means of a USB connection.

The WVL2™ will support the J2534 and RP1210B application program interfaces (APIs). In addition, is will support the following protocols: J1939, J1708, CAN, ISO 15765, ISO 9141, ISO 14230, J1850, ALDL, and ATEC 160. The diagnostic product will be compliant with Directive 2002/95/EC (known as RoHS), which originated in the European Union and restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products.
